Tailgate Badge Fitting Guide

Tailgate Badge Fitting Guide

Upgrading your vehicle's tailgate with custom badges or emblems is one of the easiest ways to add a personal touch or restore that factory-fresh appearance.  Whether you're fitting an Audi S-Line emblem or sleek blackout badge on your car or van, here's a step-by-step guide to help you install with confidence.

What You'll Need:

  • Microfibre cloth
  • Rubbing alcohol or adhesive remover
  • Masking tape or painters tape
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • Heat source (hairdryer or heatgun)
  • Dental floss or plastic pry tool (for removal)

Prep Makes Perfect:

  1. Clean Thoroughly:  Wipe down the tailgate surface using rubbing alcohol to remove wax, dirt, and grease.  This ensures proper adhesion and reduces the risk of badges lifting later.
  2. Measure and Mark Placement:  Use masking tape and a ruler to outline the perfect spot.  Align with existing badges or factory indentations if available.  Step back and check alignment from different angles.
  3. Warm the Surface:  Slight heat helps the adhesive bond better.  A few seconds with a hairdryer does the trick - just warm, not scorching!

Applying the badge:

  1. Peel and Stick:  Most of our badges come with adhesive backing.  Press the emblem firmly onto the marked spot, starting from the edge and pressing across evenly.
  2. Hold & Cure:  Apply consistent pressure for 30-60 seconds.  Let the adhesive cure for 24 hours before washing or exposing to harsh weather.

Removing old Emblems:

For clean removal:

  • Warm the area with a hairdryer.
  • Use dental floss to get behind the old badge gently using a "sawing" motion.
  • Remove residue with adhesive remover and a soft cloth.

Pro Tips:

  • Avoid using abrasive tools - they'll scratch the paint.
  • For accurate placement, take photos of the original badge location before removing it
  • If your tailgate surface is curved, press the badge gradually to follow its contour.
